HiveMatrix — the complete guide

The autonomous business operator — the system that lets a solo founder found and run a company without employees. You're the control surface; you run it from your phone, by text. This guide covers what it is, how to set it up, the Bees and how to watch them, how to report bugs & ideas, and 102 ways to put it to work — every one with a click-to-see example exchange.

Contents

01What HiveMatrix is

HiveMatrix runs on a dedicated Mac and operates the parts of a business that would normally need staff — watching channels, drafting and publishing, engaging, shipping work, and managing itself, 24/7. It doesn't replace your judgment; it does the work and brings you the decisions.

The one rule that makes it safe

Approve by text. Nothing irreversible happens without your sign-off. A task that needs a decision texts you; you reply approve / deny (or tap a button on your phone). Email sends, social posts, code merges, money-adjacent actions — all gated.

100% localEverything runs on the Mac with on-box Qwen — no cloud, ever. The private/offline posture, and the moat.
MixedFrontier models think; the local model executes. The default — best quality where it counts, private where it can be.
Frontier-onlyCloud does everything. Simplest, most capable, least private.

In any posture it's honest: it tells you what works now, what's degraded, and what's queued for later — never a silent failure.

02Setup & first run

The first-run wizard walks you through everything below; here's the shape of it:

  1. Hardware. A dedicated M-series Mac, 128 GB unified memory (runs Qwen3.6-27B 8-bit at 128K context with room to spare).
  2. Install. The notarized DMG (build ≥ 0.1.1 so auto-update works) → run the first-run wizard. The daemon is supervised by launchd, so it restarts on crash and at boot.
  3. Grant permissions (System Settings → Privacy & Security):
    • Full Disk Access — so MessageBee can read your Messages so you can run it by text.
    • Automation → Mail — so MailBee can read & draft.
    • Accessibility + Screen Recording — so DesktopBee can see and act.
    • Notifications — for the console and mobile pairing.
  4. Pick a posture and, for local or mixed, let the wizard set up the on-device model — it pins sensible defaults and keeps the model running for you.
  5. Wire your channels. Enable iMessage and add your own number to the allowlist; enable email and set your trusted senders; optionally connect Telegram. These are your control surface.
  6. Pair your phone. Open the desktop console's pairing QR and scan it in the app — that's your board, your approvals queue, and your notifications.
  7. Turn on secure remote access so your phone reaches the Mac from anywhere.
  8. Add your first directives (see §4) and you're live.

Optional, depending on posture: higher-quality content generation, image generation (cloud or fully local), browser automation backing, and your license key. Telemetry is off by default and stays on the machine if you ever turn it on.

03The Bees — what they do & how to watch them

"Bees" are the capability lanes. You rarely address them directly — you state goals and they're used as needed — but here's the cast, and crucially how to see each one running.

How to see them running / their status

04How a directive works

A directive is a standing objective you hand it once — "keep my LinkedIn warm," "watch support email," "ship small fixes." When it's due, HiveMatrix opens a run and walks it through plan → execute → verify → reflect, replanning around failures and pausing at the checkpoints you set (e.g. approve the plan before it acts). It learns: every approval and correction it records sharpens the playbooks for next time. You can watch a run move through its phases right from your phone.

You1% risk on a $50k account, entry $40, stop $37
HiveMatrixRisk $500 ÷ $3 stop = 166 shares (~$6,640). The math only — placing it is up to you.

06Reporting bugs & enhancements

HiveMatrix keeps a local backlog of bugs and enhancement ideas so nothing gets lost. File one from anywhere:

It's deliberately lightweight — a capture-and-triage backlog, not a heavyweight tracker — and it stays entirely on your machine.

07TraderBee — coming (analysis only)

Proposed, not yet built. Scenarios 95–102 above preview a TraderBee lane: watchlists, trend briefs, earnings/macro alerts, news/sentiment digests, and read-only portfolio snapshots — delivered the usual way (directives + alerts to your phone + cited briefs).

The hard line: TraderBee analyzes and alerts; it never places a trade or moves money. Every actual transaction is something you do yourself, and everything it emits is framed as "not financial advice." Adding it follows the same governance every Bee did (a decision entry + component-map + scope-wall amendment) — a deliberate, on-the-record step.

08Your first week

  1. Stand it up (§2): install, permissions, posture, channels, pair your phone.
  2. Start with one directive. Email triage or the daily LinkedIn ritual is a gentle first win.
  3. Keep everything gated at first; loosen the low-stakes checkpoints as it earns your trust.
  4. File feedback as you go (§6) — the rough edges you hit become the backlog.
  5. Let it learn. Week two is noticeably better than week one.

The dogfood week. The real test is one full week where your company runs on it — email watched, content posted, LinkedIn engaged, work shipped, with you touching only approvals. That week's trail of work is both the proof it's ready and the demo you show anyone else.
